Mary Her joined Central Valley Health Policy Institute (CVHPI) as a summer intern and became a research assistant in August 2021. Mary graduated in 2021 with a B.A. in Anthropology and a minor in Sociology from California State University, Fresno. During her undergraduate studies, she worked as a research assistant under Anthropology Professor Dvera Saxton Ph.D. With CVHPI, Mary works within the COVID-19 Equity Project to support community health workers as they address social determinants of health through community outreach programs.

Mary is familiar with many of the obstacles and unrecognized hardships that prevent non-traditional, first-generation students like herself from pursuing higher education, or even making it through high school. She wishes to pursue a Master’s in School Counseling and create environments for students that are culturally sustaining and community engaging. Mary is a foodie and has an appreciation for all things sweet, in her free time, she likes trying out new food experiences.
