Dr. Cheryl Hickey received her Master’s in Physical Therapy from California State University, Fresno and her Doctorate in Education from University California Davis and Fresno State. She received a subsequent Master’s degree in counseling from California State University, Fresno. She worked for Community Regional Medical Center specializing in acute rehabilitation at Leon S. Peter’s Rehabilitation Center. While with the hospital she also worked in acute care, ICU and outpatient neurology and orthopedics.

She began working for the department in 1998 and served as academic coordinator of clinical education. She has taught across several content area in the department, including foundational skills, pathology, department clinics, electrophysiology, research/evidence based practice, patient practitioner professionalism, exercise physiology and teaching and learning theory for the physical therapist, as well as assists with Clinical Rotations off campus.

Dr. Hickey’s main interest of research have been diverse over the years but key areas include physical agents and the use of electrical stimulation as a neurological cue, language and cultural barriers in physical therapy and implementation of best practices and international interdisciplinary outreach for underserved populations.

Dr. Hickey is a valley native who loves attending her church, loves spending time with her husband, who is her best friend and their three amazing kids- who they adore!
