Program History
The Fresno State Athletic Training Program has a long, rich history of tradition and legacy. Initially created by Ed Ferreira in 1979, he worked to develop curriculum and design a high-quality program that was approved by the NATA and JRC-AT, and would eventually be accredited by the CAATE. The program received its initial accreditation from the CAATE in 2007 and has remained accredited under the direction of Dr. Scott R. Sailor (2007-2014), Dr. Stephanie Moore (2014-2022), and Dr. Brittany A. Clason (2022-Present).

Elevating the Degree
The Athletic Training Program is housed in the Department of Kinesiology, within the College of Health and Human Services. Graduates from the Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training program initially graduated with degrees in Kinesiology with an Option in Athletic Training. However, in 2010, the degree was removed as an option and became its own major, allowing a student’s degree to specifically state BS in Athletic Training.

Developing the MS Athletic Training Program
In 2015, faculty began to plan and prepare for the eventual change to a Master of Science in Athletic Training. The program was submitted and approved by the university and Chancellor’s office in 2018. The Fresno State Athletic Training Program graduated its last class of Bachelor students in May 2020 and began offering courses to the first cohort of Master’s degree students in July 2020.
The MS Athletic Training program obtained its initial accreditation in March 2022.
