Ting-fen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communicative Sciences and Deaf Studies at California State University, Fresno. Her research interests include swallowing and swallowing disorders (dysphagia) as well as the interaction between mind, body, and breath during the prandial process. The traditional management of swallowing has generally been focused on the physiology of the disorder and the impairment level; she aspires to shift dysphagia management toward a more holistic approach. Her research aims to improve patient quality of life via alternative and complementary person-centered approaches. Prior to her Ph.D., Ting-fen worked as an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist, primarily in the acute care setting, with a focus on dysphagia evaluation and rehabilitation.

Outside of speech-language pathology, Ting-fen enjoys outdoor activities. She is also a certified volunteer breathwork, yoga, and meditation facilitator.
