Dr. Johnny Jimenez is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at California
State University, Fresno, and a doctorate-prepared, dual board-certified Family Nurse
Practitioner and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. He brings more than
14 years of healthcare experience, including eight years of advanced practice nursing
experience and prior practice as both a registered nurse and licensed vocational nurse.
His clinical background spans family medicine, urgent care, emergency care, psychiatry,
skilled nursing, telemedicine, cardiac care, and nursing leadership. He currently
maintains clinical practice in urgent care and private-practice psychiatry and is
authorized to practice under California's NP 104 pathway.
Dr. Jimenez has several years of experience teaching undergraduate and graduate nursing
students, including three years as an adjunct professor before joining Fresno State
as a full-time Assistant Professor. His academic and clinical interests include advanced
practice role development, integrated primary and mental health care, clinical decision-making,
evidence-based practice, healthcare access, and preparing nurses and advanced practice
providers to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care. His scholarly work includes
publication related to improving medication adherence and contributions to 101 Primary Care Case Studies.
In addition to his academic and clinical roles, Dr. Jimenez is actively engaged in
the nursing profession. He is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners
and has served in professional nursing leadership, including as Past President of
the California Association for Nurse Practitioners, Fresno Chapter. Across his roles
as an educator, clinician, and nursing leader, Dr. Jimenez is committed to advancing
nursing practice, mentoring future healthcare professionals, and fostering critical
thinking, professionalism, clinical reasoning, and lifelong learning.
