Program Facts

What can I do with an undergraduate degree in Sport Administration?

Our program prepares you for an entry level career in the sport industry. We cover this topic and the types of jobs in sport extensively in Kines 45 - Introduction to Sport Administration (offered every Fall).

If you graduate with a 3.0 or higher in Sport Administration, you're also a good candidate for a Master's Degree in Sport Administration at Fresno State or other graduate schoolsThe graduate program requirements at Fresno State are available here.

Will I be guaranteed a job in sport when I graduate?

No one can guarantee you a job in the sport industry.  You'll have to earn it. The 3 most important things you can do to get a job in sport are:  (1) pick a career in sport that's realistic and matches your strengths/skills, (2) gain as much experience working in sport within that field, and (3) network with as many sport industry professionals as possible within that field.

Are there a lot of jobs in sport?

Yes.  The sport industry is one of the largest industries in the United States (2X larger than the auto industry and 7X larger than the movie industry).  However, there is intense competition for all jobs in sports.  You must have a great deal of experience and have contacts in the sport industry to get a job in sport.

Do you offer sport internships?

Yes. Sport industry experience is critical.  That's why our students complete a 12 unit internship their last semester of school and are encouraged to gain as much volunteer experience as possible.

Our students have interned at numerous youth, high school, college, and professional sport organizations in the following areas (just to name a few):

  • Communications & Media Relations
  • Community & Public Relations
  • Compliance
  • Development & Fundraising
  • Game & Event Management
  • Stadium Operations
  • Football Operations
  • Marketing & Promotions
  • Social Media
  • Sponsorship & Sport Properties
  • Student-Athlete Services & Academic Advising
  • Ticket Operations & Sales
  • Video Productions

How long does the program take?

Our program consists of 120 credit units.  See our undergraduate program curriculum here.

How do I enroll into the program?

If you already have declared a major or are a transfer student, you MUST first to take KINES 45 - Introduction to Sport Administration and receive a minimum of a B in the course.  You will then need to complete a change of major form and have Dr. John McMillen, the Sport Administration Program Director, sign it.
