Department of Communicative Sciences and Deaf Studies
A Department of Four Professions
Through an interactive and interdisciplinary approach, the Department of Communicative Sciences and Deaf Studies prepares students for an enriching and in-demand career serving the public. Our goal is to effectively train the next generation of professionals in audiology, speech-language pathology, deaf education and interpreting. A diverse range of academic programs help prepare students to pursue a bachelor of arts and/or master of arts degree in the professions of Audiology, Deaf Education, Interpreting and Speech-Language Pathology.
During their undergraduate and graduate studies, students within our program will be engaged in clinical settings that are both immersive and educational, working directly with children and adults of all ages who have communication challenges. On-site, state-of-the-art lab facilities, research opportunities and faculty, who also serve as professionals in the field, will guide our students' learning experience.
The mission of our department is to disseminate knowledge and to train professionals in speech-language pathology, audiology, deaf education, deaf studies, and interpreting who will provide quality service to the public. We accomplish this by providing a stimulating leaning environment for enhancing personal and educational development, promoting understanding of people of various cultures, and offering opportunities for research and scholarship in communicative sciences and deaf studies.
