Department of Communicative Sciences and Deaf Studies

Minor in Communicative Sciences and Deaf Studies

A minor in this area provides opportunities for non-CSDS students to have a good foundation either in Communicative Sciences or Deaf Studies. The particular foundation allows these students to enhance their majors with the studies of the minor.

For example, students in psychology may be interested in counseling careers working with deaf and hard of hearing people. They will appreciate the importance of understanding the challenges of working with deaf and hard of hearing children and adults, learning about Deaf culture and American Sign Language, and studying communication and educational options parents and teachers for their deaf and hard of hearing children. Other students majoring in linguistics, education, health professions, and other areas will also appreciate the foundation the option of the Minor in CS provides.

Other non-CSDS students will pursue the second option of the Minor in Communicative Sciences, which is Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology enhancing their major with the foundation regarding speech, language, and hearing disorders.
