Department of Physical Therapy
Musculoskeletal Care Clinic
The Musculoskeletal Care Clinic (MSCC) offers physical therapy services to the student body at California State University Fresno. Services are provided by Doctoral Physical Therapy students (SPTs) in both the 2nd and 5th semesters of the DPT program, under the supervision of core faculty and community clinicians. The diverse student body at CSU Fresno provides a patient population with a variety of orthopedic issues from acute and sports related injury to postural and biomechanical dysfunction. Doctor of Physical Therapy students are given the opportunity to examine and evaluate patients, develop an appropriate care plan, and perform interventions such as manual therapy and exercise prescription under the guidance and supervision of licensed practitioners.
The MSCC is housed in the Student Health and Counseling Center where SPTs can consult with referring health care providers, access x-ray images, and refer patients to other services. The MSCC takes place twice a week in both morning and afternoon sessions. SPTs in collaboration with their patient and clinical instructors, determine the frequency of treatment. The goal is for each SPT to provide 3 hours of patient care over the 2 days of clinic with additional time for documentation and discussion with their clinical instructor. This experience provides a much needed resource to the student body, but also gives SPTs hands-on experience working with real world situations and patients prior to moving into their full-time clinical experiences during summer.
Current Fresno State Students can sign up to receive physical therapy evaluations and services through the Fresno State Student Health and Counseling Center
