About the Department of Public Health

As a vibrant and growing unit in the college, the Department of Public Health offers courses and programs based on the principles of public health practice. The department offers degrees at the bachelor’s and master’s level, which are accredited by the Council of Education for Public Health. Both degrees prepare students for careers with federal, state and local government health agencies, as well as the private sector and non-profit organizations.

Today’s varied coursework is designed to provide the maximum opportunity for problem-solving approaches to complex issues in the operational, environmental and human factors confronting health care systems. Graduates from Public Health go on to serve the community with careers in environmental health, community and public health, occupational health and the allied health professions. The students, faculty and staff within the department are committed to improving the quality of life for those in the Central Valley region and beyond.
